yesterday at 7.30pm, i punctually plopped myself in front of the tv, all excited to watch so you think you can dance! the australian version that is. i was reallieee disppointed though! and daphne called from her rural area of Shep to say that all of them were disappointed too! sigh so saddd!!! i really wanted it to be good!
the opening routine was great though!!! the famous one that all sytycd junkies know too well... and i was positively beaming watching them do it... but after that it was all downhill. *sobs* :(
ok i realise my expectations may be way too high... and maybe i shldn't have pitted this against the american version. its their first show too... so there's still a lot of time for them to grow. but after watching lacey and kameron dance that BEAUTIFUL contemp routine on the first top 20 episode of the US version, u kinda realise anything's possible and u expect this batch of dancers to be able to do the same. maybe im a bit impatient. haha :p
i'm not sure if it was the dancing that i was disappointed with or whether it was the rest of the nitty gritty that got me sighing. Natalie Bassingthwaighte looks the part of Cat Deely (7 foot tall with a french accent hehehe) but doesn't have the same aura as her, nor the voice, nor the personality. Cat will hug any sweaty dancer in a heartbeat. though i dont blame Nat for cringing. haha. maybe im biased cos i love cat deely! to me, doing what she does with the rogue traders is the best move nat's made. didnt really like her in neighbours too. :p :p but she is super gorgeous and i can't think of a better candidate for a host.
didn't like (oh mann all this dislike in the air is unhealthyyyy hehe) the video clips too... maybe because we're used to seeing that well-lighted beautiful parquet studio and the familiar faces of mia michaels/dan karaty/shane sparks... and i loveeee and miss the goofy fist encounteres between the choreographers and the US dancers...sigh. all that's tolerable. but... one of my pet peeves is that, the choreographers didn't really talk about what the piece was about! so u couldnt really fully understand the piece or identify with the emotion... i wasn't moved as a result... so every performance was pretty flat for me.
O! and i REALLY didnt like the music the choreographers chose...meh.
having said that, i really feel the dancers did a good job and did dance their heart out...just want that bit more oooomph!!! haha :p
i hope that subsequent episodes will be more powerful and moving...
from a disappointed fan.
